Description

AD120 : Drawing/Illustration
Medium - Vine and compressed charcoal

Assignment was to draw two self-portraits with dramatic lighting and shadows. One self-portrait had to be in charcoal and the other could be in charcoal, graphite or ink wash. This was my first one in charcoal.

I got a lot of good feedback from my classmates and the professor on it. Everyone said it reminded them of the Harry Potter book artwork. I don't really see it myself, but I'm not really familiar with the book artwork to begin with. They also liked the scarf a lot too... Which I only spent like 3 minutes on at the last second. *facepalm* Ah well. I'm pleased with how the shirt came out myself too. But I'm most pleased with my hair and the background! YAY FOR DARK HAIR AND EASY HIGHLIGHTS! Hahaha~ I also felt like it would look more like a portrait if the corners faded to black and encircled the face in a lighter tone. I'm pretty happy with this one.

When it comes to the face itself, I'm not quite happy with it just yet. The shadow of my chin looks awkward, but it might've been mostly because of the lighting itself. Because it did pretty much look like that, but I probably did a shotty job of drawing it right. And then the shadow of the cheek bone looks way too dark. I'll need to lighten that up when I get it back. Oh and just so you know, that's the shadow from my glasses on my cheeks... Incase you didn't realize.
